Statement

I am looking into the history of the fabrics I am using and why it is important to me where the materials came from. I’m interested in how I can manipulate the fabrics to create unique forms. I like the idea of things being passed on, sewing skills from my mother and her old fabric being given a new life. This piece is about connections or ‘ties’ [the pieces are plaited or tied together] to my past I chose the coil configuration of fabric to represent the continuation of skills learnt and passed down. Some of the fabric's transparency acts as a veil to the past and present creating one moment, as the past has shaped who I am today.
