Statement
My work investigates avenues of escape from interconnected systems of oppression under capitalism and imagines a world turned upside down.
Using painting, textiles, and print, I draw on the visual language of medieval tapestries and early modern prints as bearers of history, as well as the grotesque and humorous scenes in the margins of old manuscripts, to fabricate fictitious artifacts. By constructing speculative feminist histories, I imagine alternate paths for those of us existing in the margins of society, then and now. My works tell stories of escape, of resistance, of joy and community and artistry in the face of overwhelming forces.
