Statement

I am an XR Experience Designer in my final year of Creative Digital Media at Munster Technological University, specialising in immersive environments and bio-responsive interaction. My work sits at the intersection of spatial design, user research, and emerging technology, and I am drawn to projects that ask how immersive media can support human wellbeing rather than simply entertain. I think of virtual environments as places that should feel inhabited, considered, and quietly attentive to the person inside them, a philosophy that has shaped both my final year project and the industry-linked work I have contributed to alongside it.

My final year project, MindFlow XR, is a PCVR mindfulness experience that uses real-time heart rate biofeedback to gently adapt the environment to the user's physiological state. Rather than asking users to adapt to immersive technology, the world responds to them. As Visual Design Lead, I established the Ghibli-inspired art direction, designed the environmental user flow, modelled and textured the world in Blender and Substance Painter and worked on the particle and atmospheric systems. The project was evaluated through a within-subjects study with six participants, and the findings have informed an ongoing technical pivot toward heart rate variability-based adaptation.
MindFlow XR was developed in close collaboration with Sasha Antoniuk, who led the technical and biofeedback systems side of the project. None of the work would have been possible without his partnership, and I am grateful for the countless hours of problem-solving, iteration, and shared decision-making that shaped the experience.

I would like to thank Munster Technological University and my lecturers Paul Green, Joey Campbell, and Gary Couse, whose guidance, feedback, and steady support throughout my degree have shaped the way I think about design and gave me the confidence to take on a project of this scope.

I would also like to thank the team at Nimbus Research Centre, where Sasha and I have been fortunate to work as UX/XR researchers alongside our studies. Nimbus has been an invaluable environment for developing this project, offering both the technical resources and the wider perspective on real-world XR research that helped MindFlow XR grow into something more rigorous than a student project alone could be. In particular, I want to thank Kevin O'Mahony, Brian Cahill, Juan Francisco Martinez, and Andrew De Juan for their generosity, mentorship, and steady encouragement throughout the year.

Looking ahead, I hope to continue developing as an XR researcher and designer, pursuing a Master's degree to deepen my understanding of immersive systems and human-centred research, while continuing to contribute to the kind of meaningful, applied work I have been fortunate to be part of at Nimbus.
