Student’s Profile

I’m Waseem, I bring over 20 years of experience in advertising, having held roles ranging from graphic designer to creative director. I have a bachelor's degree in Dramatic Arts. I am currently running and developing a shop for crafting handmade dolls by pursuing an MA program in UX & UI.

Project Overview

This project aims to create a nostalgia-driven business strategy to boost sales in the handmade dolls market, with potential application to other vendors. The strategy focuses on evoking nostalgia by infusing dolls' stories with societal values overlooked today and providing them with realistic characters, backstories, and lineage to resonate with the audience. Additionally, selecting

an appropriate theme that relates to nostalgia, and simulating the users with content in a nostalgic voice tone is crucial for enhancing this appeal. Accurately identifying the target audience forms the core of this strategy, ensuring the nostalgic elements effectively connect with and persuade potential buyers.

Project Background

The project centres on platforms that offer vintage handmade dolls or relevant. It aims to enhance market reach and audience engagement by tapping into users' sense of nostalgia to increase its sales. To achieve this, the project will develop new strategy guidelines informed by an analysis of relevant platforms, creating a comprehensive plan to address various factors that will positively

influence this strategy. A platform like "Kultika" evokes nostalgia with its collection of vintage images and mid-20th-century styled fonts like "Felki." Its layout, featuring random element placement, reflects a retro design mindset. https://www.kultika.de/ “Sector32” uses an early 20th-century arcade game to evoke nostalgia. The simplicity of its pixel graphics and sound effects recreate the cultural experience of classic arcades, transporting users back to a cherished past.

“Sea Harvest” interface features vintage-inspired fonts like portrait serif and pressura mono and a textured grey background that mimics old newspapers to evoke nostalgia. https://www.seaharvest.net.au/

Project Problem

While implementing my strategy, I faced challenges that impeded the project's progress. In the fast-paced modern world, users are impatient in engaging with platforms that present lengthy tales embodied in doll storytelling that revive aimed societal values, cultures, and heritage, they prefer straightforward content that leads to quick and easy purchases. Also, substituting the commercial

phrases that are typically used on other platforms with new ones to enhance dolls' realism through their personalities, backstories, and relationships has led to users struggling to engage with the

uncommon content and recognition of its phrases forcing them to drop out of my platform.

Problem Solution

The primary challenge in crafting my strategy was to evoke nostalgia in users while keeping them engaged on the platform. To tackle this, I introduced a successful strategy that encouraged users to interact with the content by participating in an engaging puzzle. The puzzle required them to uncover a hidden societal value within the dolls' stories, with valuable coupons as rewards

for those who succeeded, making their purchases worthy. This method prompts users to explore different stories during their digital search journey, enhancing their appreciation of the dolls' value and considering the new phrases that reflect their realism instead of the commercial ones.
