Dearbhla Hooper

Statement

My work is photographic in medium and examines what is revealed to the photographer through the use of flash at night.

My work has an air of surveillance to it, and is devoid of the human figure in place of animals and creatures which co habit our domestic spaces.

The environment which I have photographed is very recognizable, however night time lends it an almost threatening and eerie atmosphere. Repetition and collage (sometimes obvious, sometimes not), helps to highlight the feeling of disorientation one feels at night when our vision is limited, and the flash illuminates creatures and objects which are hiding in plain sight.
