Statement

My work is a series of abstract pieces created from the intuition of mark-making. The works hold a strong, emotional impact, stemming from the stages of grief. Grief is a notably personal experience and each mourning pattern is vastly different. The work follows these patterns and represents grief through each stage. Usage of strong colours and abstraction opens the opportunity for viewers to obtain their own individual interpretations and relate their own ideas and experiences of grief and loss to each piece individually or as a completed series. This is achieved through an application of acrylic paint, spray paint and textured paste on large scale wooden boards. The large scale contributes to an overwhelming sensation of some of the overcoming emotions we may feel when going through the stages of grief and loss.
