Statement

My work is based on the home setting, focusing on the past. Mushrooms and moss signify decay and regrowth which I combine with typical household objects to create a surreal representation of the home environment. I hope to portray a reminiscence of the places we leave behind as we move through different stages of life. The combination of certain elements expresses a childlike wonder, juxtaposed with a sense of loss and rumination.

Mushrooms indicate decay which gives way to new life, a natural life cycle that is also an integral part of the human experience. By combining exterior and interior environments, I demonstrate the interplay between the outer world and inner psyche.

I also use personal elements and pieces of furniture from my childhood home. I started collecting the broken ceramic fragments as a child, while gardening alongside my dad.
