Statement
My work explores the tension between what appears soft and the darker realities hidden underneath. I am fascinated by the concept of masking, how we use performance and distraction as a coping mechanism for trauma, anxiety, and the exhaustion of maintaining mental stability. Drawing on my experiences living in Slovakia, Norway, and Ireland, I weave fragments of folklore, memory, and personal struggle into my visual language.
I use bright colours and pop culture influenced forms to disarm the viewer. A recurring blue character acts as an embodiment of raw emotion, guiding the audience through a narrative of psychological states. Yet, these friendly surfaces contain quiet distortions. Sharp teeth, stretched eyes, and unsettling symbolism reveal the heavy, confronting themes bubbling beneath.
My process is rooted in the urgency of street art. I work with spray paint, markers, and oil pastels, deliberately choosing found materials like discarded cardboard and old signs. These fragile, temporary surfaces possess their own histories, perfectly mirroring the psychological vulnerability I aim to capture. Ultimately, my art creates a space where heavy emotions can exist quietly, wrapped in lighter forms, just as they do in real life.
