Statement

My photography practice explores how the Gothic tradition of fiction can exist in modern photography. I am heavily inspired by the Gothic, specifically literature and film. Dramatised narratives, themes of death and the supernatural, eerie imagery. This works in conjunction with an awareness of the modern digital image; how a photo is no longer an exhibit of truth but rather a symbol which possesses a much broader range of interpretation. I photograph in black and white in order to draw attention to the most essential aspects of the medium; light and form. I work with these images in both analogue and digital formats, combining processes of textile image transfer and photoshop to bridge a gap between established ideas of print photography and its newer forms online. Through this I encourage the spectator to examine the work as both an entire image and an amalgamation of smaller features which make up its whole
