Statement

My art explores the contrasting yet intertwined feelings of grief and hope within my own life as an autistic person trying to navigate an overwhelming world. To do this I combine my lifelong love of Manga and Animation with the deeply historic art of Tapestry Weaving. Both art processes are built atop layers of careful and intentional choices of yarn or sketches.

Recently I needed to process feelings I had after the death of someone I cared for while the world felt like it was spiraling. While doing so I felt unwilling to talk to people as my feelings felt too complicated for words and too tiring to allow others to see. I found myself drawn to the often-overlooked language of flowers.

While grief and loss are part of life, so is joy and memory. Using flower language and my artistic interpretation of their many meanings, I hope to encourage others to take time to be open to what flowers can share and the importance of recognizing contrasting feelings. As someone with Autism I always found sharing a spark that helped push me forward could one day help someone else.
