My research reimagines cybersecurity training in higher education as a human-centred, trust-building practice. Interviews with staff and the university’s
cybersecurity leads revealed mistrust, emotional strain, and a disconnect between
technical priorities and lived experience. To address these challenges, I facilitated
a co-design workshop with cybersecurity experts, using participatory methods to
turn findings into actionable ideas. This process led to three prototypes: a breach
case study module, role-based tool training, and CPD credit recognition. Together,
they show how design can move training beyond compliance, making it relevant,
supportive, and directly connected to staff realities.
