Sophie O Callaghan
Statement
I am a graduate of Creative Digital Media with a strong interest in how people experience and connect with digital environments. My work is grounded in user-centered design, with a focus on virtual reality, interactive systems, and immersive experiences. During my time in college, I actively engaged in a range of extracurricular activities and initiatives, including leadership programmes, student representation, international collaboration, and creative event organisation. These experiences, alongside awards recognising my involvement and development, have shaped my confidence, teamwork, and approach to problem-solving.
My projects range from VR games to interactive installations and webapps, developed through ongoing testing, feedback, and iteration. As a UX Researcher at the Nimbus Research Centre, I gained valuable industry experience applying user-centered design principles across web and mobile platforms, facilitating workshops, and contributing to real-world projects. I enjoy working at the intersection of creativity and strategy, using tools such as Unreal Engine and Blender alongside research-driven design methods. Collaboration and inclusivity are central to my approach, with a strong focus on accessibility and user needs. As I move forward, I am particularly interested in pursuing a career in UX design, where I can continue to create engaging, user-focused experiences that respond to the evolving relationship between people and technology, while also deepening my commitment to education through my role as incoming Vice President for Education at MTU.
