Statement

In this work, I explore my relationship with the world and how it is affected by my social anxiety. In complete contrast to the environment of my childhood, I am inspired by urban landscapes. I find beauty and comfort in the sharp lines and geometric shapes I discover in the city. The genesis for this work came from my thesis research into how artists first began to use electric light sculpturally. An exploration into how these artists used space in the creation of their work, led me to examine my experience of the space around me. To examine the tension I feel negotiating the outside world, and my discomfort with social situations, I took inspiration from architectural drawings and models. My work is about finding beauty rather than making beauty.
