Statement

The work I present here has been inspired by how trauma reshapes the Self.

Trauma is like a crashing of tectonic plates- creating a completely new internal topography, founded in a need for safety, seclusion, familiarity. Attempts to map the newly exposed strata of the Self is a daunting and never-ending task. There is a primal drive for survival that bristles and snaps at any attempt to calm it - After all, it is there to protect you.

Despair, denial and grief are the natural reactions to something so monumental, the fear that having shattered once, you may shatter again. This installation is an ode, and an invitation, to acceptance. I have chosen to reflect this tension between fragility and comfort through glass and textile.
