Sanda Gālina

Sanda Gālina

Statement

Using photography and video, Sanda Gālina focuses on the notion of belonging, home and displacement. Through image making she examines internal dialogues that are created as a result of disconnect from a place of origin. Her work is introspective, often responsive and self-reflective. Time, permanence and loss are subjects that form the bases of her work. Gālina’s process is guided by an intuitive draw towards open spaces, obscure locations and coastlines. Her work contemplates silence as a path towards clarity in the moments of separation. She uses landscape as a visual language to explore the medium of photography and video in relation to our perceptions of authenticity and actuality.
