Statement

This current work, a ceramics sculpture installation, is looking at the spiritual topic of transcendence. Birds evoke ‘our spiritual base nature’ for me and I have used them, with this in mind, to represent our ability to transcend suffering through spiritual growth. The phoenix is a symbol of rebirth and transformation. I have used this imagery to depict the exhilaration of the out-of-body experiences I knew as a child which were transformative. Swallows in flight are used to represent upliftment and joie de vivre. The overall idea is to illustrate how a close connection to Consciousness/Nature can be keys to transcendence.
