Statement

This current body of work explores aspects of identity, explored through the process of mapping. Mapping and cartography are both sources of inspiration for my work. The term Psychogeography also plays a role, the relationship that one has to a specific place and the emotions that are tied to that place. Using textiles as the main medium, I use a mix of machine and hand stitch, digital print and stitch, overlapping fabrics, found materials, colours and dyes to portray my relationship and emotional understanding to the place that I am examining.

My main focus of inspiration derives from my daily commute to college on the train from Laois to Cork from September 2020 through to May 2022. Since then, my time spent in Cork adapting to the new environment I find myself in, the people I have met since, have had a profound impact on my life, and through stitch I wish to showcase this within my work.
