Statement

My degree show explores the relationships between family members and strangers within isolated settings in the films ‘The Shining’, directed by Stanley Kubrick, and ‘Psycho’, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. My large works depict the facades of the Overlook Hotel and the Bates House, accompanied by collages of drawings to the left of each piece that explore the distinct themes of both films. ‘The Shining’ and ‘Psycho’ both examine themes such as isolation, patriarchal society, masculinity, and the paranormal. ‘The Shining’ places greater emphasis on the family dynamic, while ‘Psycho’ delves into psychological conflict and ideas of duality.

Through these responses, I seek to better understand the pain of loss. Even if it's bleak and violent, I enjoy capturing the rawness of these experiences.
