Statement

I am a textile artist, using fabrics and stitch to convey the images of childhood terrors from nightmares through to phobias. My practice contains the themes of fears whether it be fear within us, or fear presented to us. I create vivid artworks which evoke the primal feeling of dread. I create unusual pieces to simulate and emit childhood phobias. Fabric pieces are cut into forms and beings that are considered comforting, i.e. teddy bears, and distressing words are sewn upon them, screaming the emotions buried inside each individual stitch. I am breaking through the internal fears to the external world where they can be seen and observed. The invisible becomes visible. The light becomes dark. The unspeakable must be spoken.
