Statement
My work explores the relationship between gender identity and physical objects, with particular focus on the male gender. The project seeks to visually demonstrate the extent to which gender stereotypes are rooted within our subconscious and how this manifests within the material world. My work primarily explores male-dominated spaces such as garages and workshops, displaying similarities between industrial materials and the stereotyped male form.
Photographing these spaces as a female photographer, I invite the viewer to question the extent to which they stereotypically gender objects and the origins of these stereotypes, and how this shapes their interpretation of my work.
